RV and Bruce to Cherokee

Up fairly early, sisters call, Kids call, and Bruce came about 2.  We showed him around and then headed to Cherokee.  We drove the Cooks RV to return it to them.  It was fun to see Grands and show Bruce around.  They got pizza, salads; it was a great meal.  Then we played table games with the boys.  Such fun.  I drove the Jeep home.

Another fine Iowa Day

Up early, coffee, devo, I headed to IG at 8.  Dose sales and then pickleball at rec center with 10 others.  Denny went back to sleep after he found out it had rained.  After lunch we pulled the heavy electric wire for the water heater.  We went to town and Trish helped us pick out shutoff valves and 90 degree elbows.  Back home I napped and listened to the Pillers of the earth.  Joyce called and said they were coming on May 18 before their wedding in Adair.

Atlantic time

I left home about 6:00 after coffee and devo.  Bruce was substituting and Gail and I spent the day together.    We went to the garage sale at her church.  I bought 2 stools that spun, a rocker, and a coat rack, plus a lot of other stuff.  Then we looked at the stores downtown.  We ate Mexican and then went to play pickleball from 1-3 at the Y.  At church we packed up the leftovers.  I headed home about 4:30 with a full car.  Denny has been driving tractor for Larsons all day.  It was a super day.  Jean was sick and so she couldn't make it.   Of the snap dragons that I planted, probably 7-10 out of 36 are alive.

Cook fun!

I headed to Cherokee to watch the boys.  I dropped off Jack at Preschool and then Tyler and I went to the wellness center where I was going to play pickleball.  I brought a clifford blanket and Tyler sat on it in the corner of the gym and Played with Melissa and Doug wooden train set that is stored in a small wooden suitcase.  He was SO good, just sitting and playing.  He would wave at me when I called to him.  After I was done we went to Casey's and bought a donut.  While we were driving there we saw a big digger and so we went back to the construction area and watched.   We went to the Blooming house. It was so great to run into Kristine K.  and visit with her about Farmers Market and flowers.  We picked up Jack After Preschool.  Jason came home for lunch.  the boys took naps and I played with Picart.   I left for   IG about 5:30.  At 6 I met Kara and Renae and we played a windy hour of Pickleball.  Renae and I went to Taco City.  I got home about the same time as Denny who has been driving tractor all week.

This reading was from Facebook:

"It's not the police who need to be retrained, it's the public. We have grown into a mouthy, mobile phone wielding, vulgar, uncivil society with no personal responsibility and the attitude of 'it's the other person's fault, you owe me'. A society where children grow up with no boundaries or knowledge or concern for civil society and personal responsibility.

When an officer says "Put your hands up," then put your hands up! Don't reach for something in your pocket, your lap, your seat. There's plenty of reason for a police officer to feel threatened, there have been multiple assaults and ambushes on police officers lately. Comply with requests from the officer, have your day in court. Don't mouth off, or fight, or refuse to comply... that escalates the situation.

Police officers are our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. They're black, white, brown, all colors, all ethnicities, all faiths, male and female, they are us. They see the worst side of humanity... the raped children, the bloody mangled bodies of traffic victims, the bruised and battered victims of domestic violence, homicide victims, body parts... day after day.

They work holidays while we have festive meals with our families. They miss school events with their kids, birthdays, anniversaries, all those special occasions that we take for granted. They work in all types of weather, under dangerous conditions, for relatively low pay.

They have extensive training, but they are human. When there are numerous attacks on them, they become hyper vigilant for a reason, they have become targets. When a police officer encounters any person... any person, whether at a traffic stop, a street confrontation, an arrest, whatever... that situation has the potential to become life threatening. You, Mr & Mrs/Miss Civilian, also have the responsibility of keeping the situation from getting out of control.

Many law enforcement officers are Veterans. They've been in service to this nation most of their lives, whether on the battlefield or protecting us here at home. They are the only thing that stands between us and anarchy in the streets.

If you want to protect your child, teach them respect." Sheriff David Clarke

Happy birthday, Missy!!!

Saturday

Sister phone call  We spent the morning getting the Airbnb ready.  We moved the "new" sectional from Jan and John to the basement, the blue love seat to the garage, the navy chair to the blue bedroom, we cleaned, vacuumed, filled the baskets, and took pictures,.   Denny had started smoking a pork butt this am with the plan to invite friends to eat after church.  We started to clean upstairs. Later we worked ton the bunkhouse west wall.  It is so good to get the work done on chilly very windy days.  Denny went to clean the truck  I  put primer paint peel stop on the chair railing until the paint can was empty.  Then Denny helped my get the tiller running and a tilled the row so I could plant the snapdragons who are having a hard time living as plugs.  NOW they will probably freeze with Sunday night (32) and Monday night (24).   Now after they are in the ground, I am second guessing.  I'm not worried about the 32, but the 24?????  But then   ... I know snaps can take a little cold, but uffda  the weather forecast went down 8 degrees (I'm SURE)  AFTER I put them in the ground.    We took showers and at 10 pm when the meat reached 200 we cut up smoked meat and put it in ziplock bags in the refridge.  YUM!!

Home, then Tax appointment

Another nice quiet morning.  It's so foggy the the schools have a 2 hour delay start.  I met with Dr. Somo  for dermatology.  I am fine, but they asked me to take a picture of the age spotts on my left lower cheek, as a baseline.  We left for our tax appointment at 1 with Cindi.  After that appointment we went to get our 4th covid shot.  Denny went home and I went to Ginny's for study.  There wee some free treasures at Doses. At home Denny washed the pickup and I cut off all the dead frons from my ferns.  We started outside, but finished eating in the warm sunroom.  Nice night chilling before we head to bed.   I think Cherity S. was in charge of making the new sign that replaces MaryAnn and Paul's sign.   Nice phone call from Matt before going to sleep.

Fun at Cherokee

After Devo I quickly painted another layer of white paint on the head boards.  I drove to Cherokee and got there about 7:30.  Mandy took Jack to preschool.  Tyler played so nicely in the crawl space.  I finished listening to the book Where the Crawdads Sang.  Jack and I picked him up at 11.   At home we had mac and cheese, talked to Jason when he came home, put Tyler to bed, and Jack and I made banana muffins.  Denny has quite a cold and so he stayed home from Awana.  I stopped there.  It looks like it was a great year.  Lord, bring each of these souls to you.  May they come to know you as their Savior.

Pick;eba;;

I went to play pickleball at 9.   There were Becky, Cindy, Eric, Dave, Gary, and me.  When I got home Denny was working on airbnb news posts.  We worked on the bunk house.  I had painted the spindles and Denny used 6 to make a barrier in the space by the staircase.  It turned out great.  I tried to explain the kitchen set up.  We taped the sizes on the floor.  Denny took out the main column, shortened it and repositioned it on a step.  We fixed hamburger, potatoes and sautéed onions.  Fun night watching tv after a good day getting lots done will.

Happy 16th birthday, Evan!!! Happy Easter!!

Lord, continue to lead and guide Evan as he is 16.  We thank You for his life.  What a blessing he is to his family and his friends.  May Evan seek You in all he does.

Nice Easter Morning  Christ in Risen.  He is RISEN, indeed!!  After devo I painted spindles in the basement bathroom, in preparation for additions to the bunkhouse stairway.  We went to fruit, coffee and donuts at church.  I was watching the River of Life service in Elk River, Minn.  At the end of the service Kane was baptized to show his desire to follow Christ.  He was baptized by his dad.  Pretty neat to watch it on the live service.  After the service in Arthur we headed to Jan and John Cooks.  It was a great meal and a fun afternoon.

Home

Early devo, and coffee.  It was a chilly morning and so we just hung out in the house.  I did replant some snapdragon plugs that were looking kinda bad.  in the afternoon we worked in the bunk house.  Putting up the paneling didn't go prefectly, but it looks ok to me.  We stopped because we needed more paneling.  It was a chilly night, but we grilled brats and had rice and spinach out on the patio.  The overhead heater helped take away the chill.

Start paneling in bunk house

I played PB until 10:30.  Just 5 of us there: Becca, Tim, Sue Craig.  I got 2 headboard at Doses and flour at Dollar General.  When I came home Denny was disappointed because car restoration costs were too high.  We went to Odebolt and got sheet rock to start bunkhouse.  It was chilly, but doable.  We started on paneling.  I planted some plants I carried home from Texas in pots where the plants had dies.  We went to Good Friday services.  Chilly day in Iowa.  I finished the book As Sure As the Dawn.  It was really a good read.  Encouraging me to stand firm and live boldly for Christ.

Cherokee fun

Up, devo, shower, left for Cherokee at 6:30. Came back to put air in Prius tire.  Left to head north at 6:39 Uffda!!  Mandy left about 8 to go meet with a couple friends.  Tyler and I had a fun time playing in the crawl space.  The space is loaded with toys.  What a great place to play and have the mess of little boys' toys contained.  After we picked up Jack at preschool we went to the library.  Both boys took naps.   We went to Jan's at 5.  Jason  loaded part of the sofa into the Prius.  Fun with Grands:

Face book post:       I never knew.. DID YOU?  If any of you have ever been to a military funeral in which taps was played; this brings out a new meaning of it.  Here is something Every American should know.

We in the United States have all heard the haunting song, 'Taps...' It's the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually tears in our eyes.     But, do you know the story behind the song?  If not, I think you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.           Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Elli was with his men near Harrison's Landing in Virginia . The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land.

During the night, Captain Elli heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a   Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment..

When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.

The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.

The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.

The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.

The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.

But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.    The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform.

This wish was granted.    The haunting melody, we now know as 'Taps' used at military funerals was born.

The words are:

Day is done.  Gone the sun.   From the lakes   From the hills.    From the sky.   All is well.    Safely rest.     God is nigh.

Fading light.   Dims the sight.    And a star.   Gems the sky.    Gleaming bright.    From afar.    Drawing nigh.     Falls the night.

Thanks and praise.  For our days.   Neath the sun     Neath the stars.     Neath the sky    As we go.   This we know.   God is nigh

I too have felt the chills while listening to 'Taps' but I have never seen all the words to the song until now. I didn't even know there was more than one verse.  I also never knew the story behind the song and I didn't know if you had either so I thought I'd pass it along.     I now have an even deeper respect for the song than I did before.     Remember Those Lost and Harmed While Serving Their Country.    Also Remember Those Who Have Served And Returned; and for those presently serving in the Armed Forces.

Happy Birthday, Phillip Home again!!

Dear Lord, thank you for blessing our family with Phillip.   Continue to give him strength, wisdom, health and joy to do the work you have set before him.  Thank you SO much.

We survived the skanky motel ... (best of America ... in no way).  We left about 6:45.  Traffic was still slow with road construction stops.  In Denison we got Casey's pizza and stopped at Fareway for groceries. We got home.  About 1300 miles  Sunday traveled 6:30-8:30= 14 hours.  Monday travel 6:45-2:45= 7 hours  total 1280 divided by 21-22 hours equals 58-60 miles an hour.  That's not too bad even with the 10-15 stops/ slow downs because of construction.  At home we unpacked, went and got Keelie.  Good to be home.  Plants all look good.
