Full arms Full ❤️ full 🚜

Denny wanted to stay in front of two 31 row planters and so he got up before light and was headed out to the field by 7.  I went out to plant the rest of the lisianthus and start a sprinkler on those rows.  Mandy had OT for her sore wrists and then she brought Jack to ride the big tractor with Denny.  I watched Tyler while they went to the field.  Wonderful day.  Mainly I held Tyler for 2+ hours.  Mexican guacamole and food around 3.  Larsons got done planting, some got to come home to be with Grands.   His money source dried up.  But he did earn enough to but guns, ammo, smoker, meat,  Happy farmer.  Denny went to bed early, I stayed out until dark planting ranunculus.  Happy Flowerer.   REALLY happy that during the night I figured out where to plant the dahlias that don't fit the best in my tilled up garden area.  I plan to plant them by picket fence/firepit.  SUPER day ... Seeing GRANDS, and Mandy.

Getting/sharing flowers

I didn't sleep well last night.  And life goes on, so  I decided when I don't sleep well, I will not nap during the day!!!  What an incentive!!!!   Denny left for the field about 7:30 am.  I went out and picked some tulips and daffodils for 2 arrangements.  One for Mandy one for Cindy B.  I stopped at Prairie Pedlar before going to Storm Lake.  I made a quick stop at Joyces Greenhouse and went to Bozwellz to pick up some desserts to share with UCHC.   It was fun to see Mandy and visit with her.  That visit made my day.  She liked the 8 bags of asparagus to eat and share with others.  And I was happy to share 'cause we'll have a lot of asparagus in the future.  Planning to keep cutting until mid June.  When I headed home I stopped at P Pedlar.  I got 11 3-packs of snapdragons, 4 3-packs of cosmos, 4 blue salvia, 4 eucalyptus, 1 3-package of green zinnias and bunny grass.  Now that is fun for me.  Next job is to let the wind calm down so I can plant that those pretty plants.  At home I thoroughly enjoyed sweet potato fries and French silk pie from Boz, and avocados.  What a treat!!!

So we don’t forget ...

Nice am.  It had sprinkled little and so tractor driving was postponed.  We headed to Denison.  Denny spent the money he is earning driving for Larson's.   Guns and Roasting Meats for smoker he bought.    :)   I rode along and visited plants at Bomgaars, Fareway, Walmart and Phil's greenhouse.  On the way home Denny got his marching driving orders.  We unloaded the car and he headed to the field.  I napped and then finished mowing the lawn.  Then I weeded and planted lisianthus until my phone battery died.
The Rhododendron that is growing by the coop is really pretty this year.  It was fun that last year in N. they had that flower as big as trees.

This info was on facebook and it is a good summary of this Corona Virus impact:
Today is Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
- We are (at average) at 42 days of social isolation. In the US alone, there are just under 1 million confirmed covid19 cases with 55,000+ deaths as of this morning.
- Schools have been closed since March 17th and are teaching remotely on-line. Schools will not reopen for the 2019-2020 school year.
- Only “essential” retail stores are open such as grocery stores, hardware stores, and pharmacies. Amazon delivery windows average 3 - 4 weeks when they used to be max. 2 days. No gyms are open, and it’s almost impossible to find weights, exercise equipment, bikes, etc.
- All extra curricular/ volunteer/business meeting and other gatherings are now on virtual meeting platforms i.e.(Zoom, House Party, Go to Meeting, Whatsap, Webex, Google Duo) the list goes on. Hang in there, life will continue and eventually, all together, we will get to a new normal!
- There are lines / tape inside the stores on the floors to keep people 6 feet apart.
- Bars and restaurants are open only for takeout, home delivery & drive through.
- Playgrounds and sports fields are closed. Most beaches, parks and cemeteries are closed to the public. No visitors are allowed in hospitals.
- All major and minor league sports competitions have been canceled as well as kids' sports. The NFL draft was done virtually this week. It was special.
-American Idol was done virtually this week.
- All festivals and entertainment events have been banned.
- Weddings, family celebrations, and graduations have been canceled. Funerals limited to 10 people graveside.
- People are doing drive-by parades to celebrate birthdays.
- Young kids can’t understand why they can only see grandparents & other extended family and friends on a screen or thru a window if someone visits in person or on Facetime online.
-Visitors are prohibited at nursing homes and assisted living residences.
- Hugs and kisses are not exchanged.
- Places of worship are closed or online.
- We have to stay away from each other more than six feet.
- Shortage of disposable masks and gloves in hospitals.
- People are wearing masks, some places REQUIRE that you wear them to enter! People are even sewing their own cloth masks for sale or donation to medical facilities. Illinois announced that as of May 1st, face coverings are required in public over the age of 2 where social distancing cannot be maintained.
- Toilet paper, hand sanitizer, bleach, antibacterial wipes and anything Lysol or Clorox is in short supply and limited per person.... IF you can even find them! (This goes the same for flour and yeast).
- Stores are closing early to disinfect everything. (24 hour stores are even closing by 6,8 or 9pm)
- Store check outs, pharmacies and even fast food drive thru windows have added plexiglass between the employee and the customer. Have to reach around or under to pay!
- You can't find isopropyl alcohol easily. .. the supply per person is limited.
- Australia, USA, Canada and Europe have closed their borders.
- Western Australia has been divided into 9 territories & an instant $1,500 fine issued for crossing the border without a valid reason. (Transport workers, Essential services etc)
- No one is traveling for leisure. Airports empty. Tourism has the worst crisis in history.
- Wi-Fi and cell phone providers have extended their limits to provide connection to the Internet for people to continue to work from home and for students to learn from their teachers.
- Many public pool access, concerts and summer activities will not be allowed/take place.
- We don't know if baseball seasons will start, hockey season will continue/end or any summer camps, etc. will run. Lots of teen/college summer jobs are up in the air.
-Colleges have not made definite decisions about whether to take their classes online, in person, or open at all for the fall.
-K-12 has ended their school year and plans to open for the fall have so many unknowns, social distancing, new guidelines for keeping everyone safe. How will it be scheduled? Can sports and activities continue as they have?
- Society appears to be divided about whether or not we should continue to isolate or open back up and get the economy going. It's an election year and politics are messy and complicating this issue.

Why do I post this?
It will be an annual reminder that life is precious; that nothing should be taken for granted. We are where we are with what we have. Let's be grateful.
This text is not mine, but I copied it because I want to remember it, too.

Beautiful day

Denny headed off Hi ho Hi ho ... to drive tractor about 7:30. I moved most of plants out of the sun room and vacuumed and cleaned.  Now that needed to be done.  AND now I am sure the weather will take a turn for the worse and I will have to bring them in or cover them.  I am not really sure about my Texas plants if they can take 40 degree weather.   We'll see.  The ranunculus that I put in the Kool bot look pretty good.   I mowed half of the lawn, planted some asters, and weeded in the grassy flower bed until my phone battery died.
So thankful for Mandy who is on the front line of the Covid 19 battle.
So thankful for Missy who had my back each step of the way during my N. trek.
I consider both of these ladies, angels.

Sunday April 26 Happy birthday, Missy!!!

Wow, Missy, I love you so much.   May God always be your guide thru life!!!   I really shouldn’t start to look at pictures when you were little... so many precious memories.  Thanks for being the fun, great daughter you are!!!
One of my favorite all time photos!!! Love those babies. So happy!!

The day started out great when Missy called to talk to us on her birthday!!!  She was soon headed to bed and thought we might call after she was asleep.  SO GOOD TO TALK TO HER!!!  Nice way to start the day.  Our morning ... and the whole day ... was slow.  Around noon Denny put a pork loin in the smoker and I went out to take a nap on the trampoline.  We spent most of the afternoon on the
deck watching the smoker.  Ate around 6, very good.

Prime rib from Best of Barbs's

Denny left around 7:15 to drive tractor.   I worked on i memories and then went out and dug a couple of pails for dirt from the bunkhouse lower level.  I raked the flower area and set out some rugs and wire supports.  Around 3 I headed into IG.  Stopped at Bomgaars to get tordon and roundup.  I got a few groceries and 2 lp tanks.  and stopped to get the prime rib I ordered at 4:30.   Surprize after I stopped at Brownies to get Denny a twin bing twister, I called him and he was home.  Wow did we have a great meal out on the patio.  It was SO good.

Lord, May my kids leave precious memories with my grands during this time, so when Haley, Evan, TJ, Anabel, Brooks, Kane, and the 4 littles are Grandparents .... they can answer ....

Child - "How old are you, Grandpa?"
Grandpa - "I'm 81, dear."
Child - "So does that mean you were alive during the Coronavirus?"
Grandpa - "Yes, I was."
Child - "Wow. That must have been horrible, Grandpa. We were learning about that at school this week.

They told us about how all the schools had closed. And moms and dads couldn't go to work so didn't have as much money to do nice things.
They said that you weren't allowed to go and visit your friends and family and couldn't go out anywhere.
They told us that the shops and stores ran out of lots of things so you didn't have much bread, and flour, and toilet rolls.
They said that summer holidays were cancelled. And they told us about all those thousands of people that got very sick and who died.
They explained how hard all the doctors and nurses and all essential workers worked, and that lots of them died, too.

That must have been so horrible, grandpa!"

Grandpa - "Well, that is all correct.
And I know that because I read about it when I was older.
But to tell you the truth I remember it differently...

I remember playing in the garden for hours with mom and dad and having picnics outside and lots of bbqs.
I remember making things and fishing with my Dad and baking with my Mom.
I remember making forts and learning how to do hand stands and back flips. I remember having quality time with my family.
I remember Mom's favorite words becoming 'Hey, I've got an idea...'
Rather than 'Maybe later or tomorrow I'm a bit busy'.
I remember making our own bread and pastry. I remember having movie night three or four times a week instead of just one.

It was a horrible time for lots of people you are right.
But I remember it differently."

Remember how our children will remember these times.
Be in control of the memories they are creating right now, so that through all the awful headlines and emotional stories for so many that they will come to read in future years, they can remember the happy times.

Found the south side of foundation

I didn't sleep well last night and after Denny left for the field about 7:15, I went back to rest.  On find my phone, Denny was working over by Danbury and is now working north of us and south of Arthur.   I worked on heart and then went outside and finished the south side of the bunkhouse.  It is chillier and so I didn't feel like transplanting/moving some plants.  I did pick my first meal of asparagus.

Now this???? was the prize ???? I warded to myself after making the perimeter of bunkhouse.
Tyler eating Oreos.
Mandy eating ginger snap cookies.

Working on I heart memories

Denny left for tractor driving about 7:15.   Wrongly, I didn't fix pork chops on grill last night,  biscuits and gravy didn't cut it.  UFFDA!!!  In am I worked on iheart.  It's fun to see our kids when they were little.  The best part of the day was a video that Missy sent me.  It was a birthday wish for Doctor.  AND a fun poem that Anabel wrote and Mandy shared with our family.  I went out to work on west side of the bunkhouse.  The foundation is not solid on this side of the building.  I spent most of the day outside, even spent some time taking a nap on one of the 3 trampolines.  :)  Gotta sleep when you can.  :)   I raked leaves, burnt leaves, and moved some lilies from one place to another off the south side of the deck.

Foundation found north of bunkhouse

Denny was up and out by 7:30.   I was slower.  I worked a little on memories, then went outside and worked on north foundation and played with my plants.  I moved the lisi and asters out of the greenhouse because I think it gets too warm under the plastic.  I watched Pioneer Quest.  LIFE ...

 I found a couple old pictures ...

This is us as littles ... How cute were we!!!!!!

Day on the farm and in the tractor

Denny was up and going at getting coffee and breakfast before 7.  UFFDA!!  Now that's early for a retired ... tired  guy.  I got the letters to the Mo Jo's in the mail.  It is now 9 pm and he's not home yet.  I spent the day outside doing 'dirt under the fingernails' stuff.  Raked some leaves, trimmed some bushes, lawn "mowered up" some leaves, made 140 soil cubes. sprayed round up on grasses in flower bed, hauled dead plants that were too big to "Mower up" to the grove,  planted 100 ranunculus into the cubes, scraped the east side of the bunk house foundation, tired and so then I set up the hammock.  I gave Kathy R. a call at 5 to catch up on her life.  At 7 we had a family group call/video.  SO good to see/hear about family's lives.  Watched some tv before heading to bed.

Denny's smoker arrived

Well, it's another happy day for Denny.  He loves gadgets!!! Jerry, at 4seasons had a smoker and the meat was really good... so when we got back to Iowa Denny ordered one for our patio.  We tried to get meat on the way home, but hyvee was out of the brisket.  So I took out a should roast we had in the freezer.  Denny was planning on working for Larson's today, but they called about 6:30 and said it had rained enough to postpone his working.  Good thing the smoker came so he has some project to work on.  NOW to get meat to smoke .... Tiefentaller ???? .... Denison Fareway ????   Me, it's almost noon and I am still in my robe.  UFFDA!!

Keelie's hunt

Lovely very slow am.  Such a good morning listening to Pastor Dave in the sunroom and chilling.  Matt texted with a picture of Haley earning money on a Sunday afternoon car wash extravaganza.  ($2 a car)  All 4 of our critters are back home.  We think Neopolitan probably has a litter of babies at Nick SF's.  But she came over to check out our digs and Lily came too.  We had nice call with Mandy.  In the late afternoon we were at the CSA barn and walked across the road to follow at path that a critter had made through the grass while we were in Texas.  That lead to Keelie following a scent trail into the barn where she attacked a raccoon under the straw.  Oh, did Denny laugh as we videoed, and Marco Polo-ed the event.  Much laughter.   Denny wanted them to be aware of ideas he had.  Then later this evening Chuck G. called.  Good to talk to him.

Making my dreams come true....

I slept terrible last night, but got up and ready to meet with DNC moving company from Hornick, Ia. Dale came and looked at building and destination.  He gave me an estimate of $1200 and we said, "Please work us into your schedule and get the grainary moved to our home place."   He said the electrical lines shouldn't be a problem.  Now that was good news.  I spent the rest of the morning making soil cubes and putting lisianthus plugs into the cubes.  I think I got them all done.  Lord, help them grow well.  I always think of one time several years ago when I was feeling bad because the little plants looked sad and Phillip told me," Plants are pretty forgiving."  :)    Denny went to town and got oil for the mowers.  He mowed the lawn.  First time this year.   The next job Denny tackled was a job that made me think ... "Making my dreams come true."  He has always before said we needed to make the foundation of the bunkhouse solid before we remodeled or fixed it up.  So this was the first step.  He dug around the building to locate cement blocks that the building is sitting on.  Wow!!! That surprised me.  I didn't foresee it coming.  It was snack time ...  YUM!  After eating it was time to go in and shower and chill for the end of a great Saturday.

These Grands are all wearing the same shared Twins hat!!!!
Evan, Anabel, Brooks, Rose, and Lincoln.
Go Minnesota Twins!!!

Happy Birthday, Evan!!

It is hard to believe that you are 14, Evan.  Happy Birthday!  May God Bless you as you learn more about Him, trusting Him, and knowing Him.  He has a great plan for your life!!

It was great to talk to Evan at 6am.   Denny got up at 3 to take more Nyquill, so he went back to bed. When it warmed up I went out to the green house and started to make soil blocks for the plugs I got yesterday.  I made some phone call.  First Kathy L. said Scott M. hired the building movers.  Scott gave me the phone number of DNC and I texted them the info to move the building.  He texted and said she would be out in the morning.  Lord, guide the decisions for the grainary.  May it be used for Your glory.  It was a treat to have Mandy call on her way home from work.   We got a family text showing her work apparel.  Denny and I snacked out on the patio.  He set up the Christmas present from the kids.  Not really warm, but ......  looking forward to summer.   Jacob and Beth stopped by to return the Jeep.

TriptoIG

Lovely morning.  We had a great call from Missy while she cleaned her kitchen.  I love visiting and hearing about their lives.  The pickup battery was charged!  Hurrah!  Around 11 we went to get gas for the lawnmowers.  I ordered curbside pickup from Bomgaars ... 2 bags of Miracle Grow potting soil, Preem, cat food, and 1 package of State Fair Zinnias.  I got 2 big suitcases unpacked.  FedEx delivered my flower plugs.  Hurrah!!!!  Hopefully tomorrow will be warm enough in the green house to make cubes to put the plugs in.  So happy to have soil and plugs for me to play with tomorrow.

Home

It felt good to be home.  Slow morning.  Denny got some much needed sleep.  Bless his  heart for driving all 19-24 hours on the way to Iowa.  What a guy!!  The pickup battery was dead, so we needed to charge it before we went to get Keelie.  I started to triage the plants in the sunroom out on the deck.  The pickup finally got charged and we took it to Jacob's and Beth's.  Well, the pickup got shut off and when we were ready to go it wouldn't start.  Uffda!!!  We walked home with Keelie.  Denny worked on the truck and I worked on plants.  Denny grilled steaks and we had a great meal.  Showers and to bed.

      I

I PRAY WE DON'T GO BACK TO NORMAL
1. I pray that the next time a friend grabs me and pulls me in for a hug, I actually take the time to appreciate the gift of their embrace.2. I pray that when school resumes and people are dropping kids off, they take the time to thank the staff for the amazing gift that they give to our community.
3. I pray that the next time I’m sitting in a crowded restaurant I take the time to look around at the smiling faces, loud voices and thank God for the gift of community.
4. I pray that the next time I’m standing in church listening to the voices of praise and worship that I take a moment to thank God for the gift of congregation.
5. I pray that the next time I see a person or situation that needs prayer, I hope I pray as passionately and fervently as I have these past few weeks.
6. I pray that when I am at the grocery store that I take a moment to thank God that He provides us with the necessities of life and the amazing people who work so hard to keep us supplied.
7. I pray that I never again take for granted the ability to hop in the car and visit a friend, go to the mall, go to a gathering, etc.
So, truth is, I don’t want things to return to the way they once were. I pray that we take the lessons and challenges of the past few weeks and create a new normal.
My goal is to pray more, love harder and truly appreciate the daily abundance of blessings that were so easily overlooked just a mere few weeks ago.

2nd day driving north

Left Norman at 9:20, Well, not quite .... after getting an order at Whataburger the low tire light came on and so we stopped to get air before we left Norman.   When we finally found the air dispenser there was an old bike and a pile of stuff next to the air machine.  Boy, was Denny startled when a guy who was sleeping under the couple blankets sat up, looked around, and then lay back down and covered his head.  On the way home we made a HyVee online order to pick up in Denison about 6 -7 this evening.  Still a long car ride until then.  Denny also had me order a gas smoker on Amazon.  Getting ready for the summer!!

Heading to Iowa

Left 4 seasons at 8:30,  got a whataburger sandwich and coffee, so we are driving north by 8:45.   We passed thru Fort Worth about 5:15.   The expressway worked well!  Actually it seemed longer to go thru Austin that D/FW.  The sandwiches ;and crackers and cheese that Kathy sent along really was wonderful.  We drove to Norman,  Ok. filled with gas, and stayed in a Days Inn along I35.  It was about dark 8:30 when we were at the motel.  Denny had driven 12 hours and I was awake the whole time, so we were ready to hit the sack.
